About Us

Every Credit Card Processing Transaction does some good

ChipIn is a unique payment processing company dedicated to building a better future. By giving back, we believe we can make a difference. We started in the merchant processing industry over 34 years ago out of a tiny garage. Since then, we’ve grown with great success and lead with one of the highest approval ratings in the industry. We understand that making a difference in someone’s life is priceless so we built a donation program 12 years ago as a pilot in California. From its success, we’ve launched our redesigned model in 2017 to make it priceless for all businesses to do the same.

We Give Back

Seeing what can be done to make a difference is how we differentiate ourselves from any other payment processing company out there. Others take, we are here to give back.  So we aligned ourselves with a variety of credit card processing companies as our engine to help power the biggest impact possible in payment processing.

Why Gregg is Inspired to Give Back:
He was Covid Patient Zero

Descriptive Video Transcript

Gregg (00:02): "On March 5th, I was patient zero. It was the very first Covid patient. During my time in the hospital, my fingers died. A couple of my toes died. This isn't like the flu."

AJ (00:19): "Gregg and I were both very active people."

Gregg (00:22): "I ski 70 to a hundred days a year. I mountain bike, I hike, I golf. Come February, 2020, it took a different turn."

AJ (00:30): "Gregg had a trip with a bunch of his guy friends to the North Italy."

Gregg (00:35): "Shortly after I got there, I got a call from AJ, my girlfriend."

AJ (00:39): "I called him and I was like, Hey, have you heard of this virus? Have you heard of the move to where you guys are? And he's like, yeah, we've heard of it, but we're in open air and we're outside. We haven't really heard of any cases near us. And I just said, listen, do your best to pay attention to it if you start feeling symptoms or something. It could be that."

Gregg (00:57): "Three days into the trip started feeling flu-like symptoms, and I just laid up in my room for a couple of days and towards the end of the trip we found that our F tested positive for coronavirus."

AJ (01:09): "So nine days in, Gregg was headed home with the rest of his crew."

Gregg (01:13): "Getting back to la it started to get progressively worse. I went immediately home quarantined myself. I tested positive. 24 hours later."

AJ (01:22): "I was pretty freaked out. I didn't know what this was."

Gregg (01:25): "I checked into the hospital on March 5th."

AJ (01:28): "Right after Gregg was admitted to the hospital. It got real and things happened very quickly."

Gregg (01:34): "On March 7th, the doctor came in and said that they had to intubate me on a ventilator. And I turned to one of the nurses and I literally said to her, I'm really afraid I don't want to die. And she looked at me and said, I promise you I won't let you die. And I was asleep for 31 days."

AJ (01:54): "It was really scary because he was hooked up to so many tubes IVs and he was packed in ice because he had a fever that they were trying to lower."

Gregg (02:05): "I had collapsed lungs. My blood pressure would crash four different times."

AJ (02:10): "His kidneys completely failed."

Gregg (02:12): "I was maxed out on the ventilator. I had MRSA, I had sepsis. After those 31 days, that's when I started coming out of sedation."

AJ (02:21): "Once he was in the recovery unit"

Gregg (02:23): "There were quite a few setbacks. I burst my fourth lung when I was coughing so profusely, and that was the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life."

AJ (02:31): "He was doing the simplest of things, learning how to swallow, learning how to walk again, brush his hair, go to the bathroom."

Gregg (02:38): "Once that took place, I got invited up into the rehab center. It was an intense rehabilitation."

AJ (02:45): "After 31 days of being on the ventilator and 64 days in the hospital, Gregg pushed so hard in rehab and when we finally got a day, May 8th, 2020, that guy was"

Gregg (02:58): "Getting out of the hospital. My determination was to walk out of that hospital. There were hundreds inside the hospital, 200 people in the atrium. I was supposed to go out with a walker, and the adrenaline was pumping so hard that I looked at AJ and just said, grab an arm. I stood up and I walked out. It was the most unbelievable experience of my life."

Gregg Garfield is a testament to the power of positive thinking.  He lived the adventurous life he imagined: skiing around the world, mountain biking, playing golf, staying fit and enjoying the company of friends and loved ones.

When he joined his ski buddies in Italy’s Dolomite Mountains late February 2020, he had no way to foresee that his life would be forever transformed. Gregg contracted Covid in Italy and returned to Southern California weakened and struggling to breathe.

His doctors gave him a 1% chance to survive.

While not the odds anyone would want to count on, Gregg fought from the brink of death to recover – after spending 31 days on a ventilator and 64 days in the hospital. Along with his fiancé AJ who relentlessly stayed by his side, it took a village of doctors, nurses and friends to help him through. Gregg achieved his goal of walking out of the hospital and is even now back to skiing!

His inspiring story as Patient Zero at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA, will fascinate you and leave you believing in miracles. Gregg shares his highly sought after story of resilience, community, mindset and triumph with Fortune 1000 companies, non-profits and schools nationwide.
